The Bradford Bandits BMX Club is featured in a new photographic exhibition inspired by a road trip in a motorhome.

Photographer Simon Roberts spent two years travelling around the country, capturing people at leisureon camera. The result is an exhibition called We English, commissioned by the National Media Museum.

The images capture events such as paragliding, golf, racing at Ladies’ Day, Aintree, picnicking at Bolton Abbey, and biking at Bradford Bandits based at Peel Park, Undercliffe.

Simon, who won a bursary from the museum for the project, said: “Looking at the activities we partake in outdoors struck me as a thought-provoking way of exploring England’s shifting cultural and national identity. They seem to say much more about who we are than, for instance, what we do in the workplace.

“Landscape is an intrinsic part of these experiences. I was interested in the way we transform the English landscape, how we utilise, consume and enjoy it.”

- We English runs at Gallery One, National Media Museum, from March 21 to September 5. For more information, ring 0870 7010200.
