Hip Hop artist Rahul Sabbarwal is about to set up his own record label after winning a top award.

The 21-year-old from Bradford has used his award for Best Business Idea from Bradford Enterprise Academy to help launch MRS Records, and now he wants more grants to run music and video workshops for other young people in the city.

Rahul, an enterprise student at Bradford College, says music helped him overcome racist taunts experienced as a child and inspired him to make a future in the recording industry.

He hopes when his workshops are up and running, they will keep youths safe and off the streets.

“We’re still in the funding stage for the workshops at the minute. They will be open to anyone, but are aimed at young people with problems involving misuse of drugs and alcohol,” he said.

Rahul, known to his fans as Master RS, is having a party to launch MRS records on March 13 at Bradford Playhouse.

Rahul already has two singles that reached Number 7 on the Sky Digital AKA music chart and won an American on-line competition to get another single, Dead Feelings, featured on iTunes.

He’s keeping his fingers crossed that the title of his next single Superstar will come true for him.

His college tutor Vikas Gera is convinced Rahul has got what it takes.

“His enthusiasm is infectious and his drive and desire to help the local community is clear,” he said.
