A teenage burglar whose brother kidnapped and raped an 86-year-old woman two days after they broke into a house together has also been locked up.

Andrew Boocock, 18, was sentenced to three years in a young offender institution at Bradford Crown Court yesterday.

He was sent to custody under the “three strikes” rule for persistent home burglars.

Boocock, of Hapsberg Court, Little Horton, Bradford, was convicted by a jury last month of burgling a house in Kelmore Grove, Woodside, Bradford, on September 13.

His brother Dale, 19, who committed the burglary with him, is serving an indefinite sentence for the kidnap and rape of the frail pensioner two days later.

Andrew Boocock alleged during his trial that his brother played the key role in the Kelmore Grove break-in.

Judge Peter Benson bailed Andrew Boocock last month until the sentencing hearing after his barrister told him he wanted to be with his mother at “a very difficult time” for the family.

Dale Boocock, also a three strikes burglar, was last month labelled a public danger by Judge Benson at a separate court hearing and sentenced to an indeterminate period behind bars.

He broke into the Springfield residential care home in Western Way, Woodside, on September 15, abducted his victim from her bed and raped her in the grounds.

The pensioner was found by a staff member shaking, bleeding, and partially clothed. Her health deteriorated rapidly and she died two months later, though not as a direct consequence of the attack. Dale Boocock, who was arrested shortly afterwards, refused to tell the police how he got into the home.

He was sentenced to an indeterminate period behind bars to protect the public.

It will be almost five years before he can even be considered for parole.
