Disabled power lifter Kevin Pringle is ready to pull his weight for Bradford in the European Special Olympics.
And Bradford car repair business Lady Royd Garage, in Thornton Road, is backing Kevin, 40, who has Down’s syndrome, all the way.
Garage administrator Fiona Thorns was lifted off her feet by Kevin when she gave him sponsorship money to attend the games in Warsaw, Poland, in September.
Athletes need to raise £1,250 for accommodation and travel, but Lady Royd has stumped up £1,500 for Kevin – leaving a bit spare for spending money.
David Thorns, who manages the family business, said the company got involved through its work with social landlord Brunel Housing.
He said: “Our message to Kevin is ‘go for it!’ He’s done really well so far.”
* Bradford will have another representative at the games, ten-pin bowler Steven Jowett. Anyone who wishes to sponsor Mr Jowett can contact Barry Thorne, activities and fundraising officer for Bradford Disability Sport, by calling (01274) 437093 or by e-mail at bsr1@btconnect.com.
