The wife of a Bradford-born businessman who sells Yorkshire to the world is about to make her own mark – on the literary world.

Chris Madeley, whose husband Keith is known as Mr Yorkshire, launches her first children’s book next week – and it is all about road cones.

The adventures of The Cones were first read during visits she made to Sandy Lane First School 15 years ago.

She got the idea for the tales from passing roadworks commuting to and from London.

To celebrate the launch, she is hoping youngsters who were at Sandy Lane, and are now possibly parents themselves, will get in touch and go along.

Youngsters on the picture printed in the Telegraph & Argus in 1996 were Joanna Feasby, Jessica Wilkinson, Rachel Bowyer, Sophie Ormondroyd, Sophie Mitchell, Andrew Higgins, Richard Gott and Sam Taylor.

Mrs Madeley, whose two grandchildren are The Cones biggest fans, said: “It’s not just a story or for reading at bed. I’m hoping children will learn something for life and that The Cones’ adventures will start off discussions.”

Talks with Waterstones and Tesco are ongoing, but The Cones, The Beginning can be bought before they get into book shops from colourheroes.com.

Mrs Madeley already has a whole series of follow-up adventures penned.

In her books the orange-coloured characters are fascinated by human behaviour and their adventures teach important lessons about staying safe.

Anyone from the 1996 photo who would like to attend the launch on Thursday should call Dee Goldstraw (0113) 2875910.
