Canon Andrew White, the only Anglican chaplain in Iraq, has visited a Shipley church to talk about his work as a vicar in Baghdad.

Canon White spoke at St Peter’s Church today about his reconciliation work with sectarian leaders and the US authorities.

A supporter of the 2003 invasion of Iraq, he said: “The terror that followed would not have happened if religion had been taken seriously. If you want peace you can only have it with religion.”

The father-of-two was due to meet members of Bradford Council of Mosques tomorrow before speaking at Bradford University. His visit to Bradford will finish with a talk at the Abundant Life Church on Sunday.

He said: “It’s very good to come here because I work in a predominately Muslim environment and Bradford has a significant Muslim population.”
