Policing are questioning a 20-year-old Iraqi in connection with the murder of a Bradford student.

Detectives apprehended Reaben Borhan Kareem in London late on Sunday night following a public appeal to help trace him.

He is being held in custody and questioned by police in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 19-year-old man in a terraced house in Grantham Road, Great Horton, Bradford, on Friday evening.

Relatives of the teenage victim were travelling to Bradford yesterday to formally identify their son.

A post-mortem examination carried out on Sunday showed he died of multiple stab wounds. He has yet to be named by police, but was a student at the University of Bradford.

Detective Superintendent Steve Payne, who is leading the investigation on behalf of West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, thanked the public and the media for their support in catching the suspect.

Another man, a 19-year-old who was arrested in London on Saturday, is still being held in custody after police were granted an extension to continue to question him in connection with the murder.

Two other students were found with injuries in the property in Grantham Road.

A 30-year-old man remains in hospital recovering from stab wounds he received and was due to be released yesterday.

A 22-year-old woman was assaulted but did not suffer stab wounds and was released from hospital.

Police said it was not a random attack and the house had been targeted.

A spokesman for the University of Bradford said: “We can confirm he was a student at the university and our thoughts are with his family and friends. Everybody is very shocked and saddened by what has happened.”
