Shipley Rotary Club has started the New Year as it ended the last one – by helping others.

The latest effort was to supply a Rotary Disaster Box for use in the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake.

The boxes, held nationally ready for disaster areas, hold a six-berth tent, cooking utensils, tools, a cooking stove and other essential items.

Other events by the club included 48 children being taken to the Alhambra pantomime in Bradford.

Besides the Christmas Tree Appeal at ASDA, where 300 presents were supplied to children and vouchers given to needy families, other fundraising has been held too.

On Saturday, March 20, the Glen Singers, with Shipley Rotary Club, will hold an evening at St Paul’s Church in Shipley to raise money for the Marie Curie hospice in Leeds Road, Bradford. Tickets cost £5 and are available from Cotson and Reddish, Saltaire, or reservations can be made on (01274) 595600.

The night will be sponsored by Cotson and Reddish and SDS Ducting.
