If you haven’t managed to catch Avatar: An IMAX 3D Experience at the Media Museum, then don’t despair because they’ve extended the run until February. The film is set to become the biggest-selling IMAX feature film in Bradford, surpassing The Dark Knight as the museum’s most successful showing on the giant screen. Screenings for the ground-breaking sci-fi epic are continuing to sell out, which is why the run has been extended.

Next Saturday, the Midland Hotel in Bradford is hosting a Rose & Brown Vintage Fair in the glamorous Princes Ballroom. There will be 30 stalls featuring treasures from the 1920s to the 1980s for you and your home. From groovy Sixties mini-dresses and Art Deco tea sets to crocodile handbags and old radios, this is the place to find a piece of the past. The event runs from 9.30am to 4pm and tickets are £2 in advance from Rose & Brown, or £3 on the door with concessions for students and over-60s, free to the under-16s.

With the current economic situation, many of us are having a go at making our own clothes. If you are a novice dressmaker there are plenty of courses around including one at the Temple Row Centre in Keighley. Here you will learn how to make a garment using a commercial pattern, laying up and cutting off fabric, tacking and finishing. No previous experience is needed. If you’re interested, call Chris Beal on (01535) 603465 or (0113) 2453304. The course runs from Wednesday at 7pm, to March 17, costing £42.

Visit Yorkshire Sculpture Park, West Bretton, Wakefield, next weekend for the intriguingly-named Dome D’Ombre, a shadow workshop where the family can create fairytale characters to inhabit a magical paper town lit by shining lanterns. There are sessions at 10.30am, 1pm and 3pm, at a cost of £1 per person.

Next Saturday and Sunday, the 88th Bradford Excel Small Animal Show will be full to bursting with rabbits, guinea pigs, gerbils, hamsters, mice and rats. The show is held at the Yorkshire Event Centre at the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate.
