Bradford theatre company Paper Zoo are busy touring their stage adaptations of George Orwell’s novels about political oppression, Animal Farm (pictured) and 1984.
On February 4, they will be performing Animal Farm at The Carriageworks in Leeds, while on February 19 they will be playing 1984 at the Waterside Arts Centre, Sale, in Greater Manchester. This play features a 50ft-high moving image of John Hurt as Big Brother.
Paper Zoo will really be showing what they can do on February 24, when they perform both plays on the same day at Wakefield Arts Centre – Animal Farm at 1pm and 1984 at 7.30pm.
Actor Ben Eagle, the company’s co-founder, said: “We are delighted to be touring our most successful productions in 2010.
“Apart from these shows, we are also in negotiation with high-profile venues in Liverpool, Derby, Sheffield and London.
“After the sell-out performances of 1984 at the National Media Museum in June last year – with a little bit of help from John Hurt – we’re hoping this tour will take Paper Zoo to the next rung of a very competitive ladder of theatrical success.”
