A police officer from Bradford has appeared in court to face charges of fraud and theft.

Kashif Ahmed, 32, who has been suspended by the West Yorkshire force, is due to be committed for trial at the city’s crown court later this month.

Ahmed, of Toller Lane, Heaton, Bradford, made his third appearance before magistrates yesterday with his co-accused, Shamin Khan.

Ahmed, who is based in the Leeds North-West division, faces nine charges.

Married Khan, 45, of Avondale Road, Shipley, is accused of one matter under the Fraud Act.

The pair spoke only to confirm their names, addresses and dates of birth during the brief hearing.

The case had been due to be committed to the crown court yesterday, but defence lawyers asked for more time to consider committal papers from the prosecution. The Bench agreed to a two-week adjournment.

The defendants were both granted unconditional bail.

A police spokesman confirmed a 32-year-old officer was currently suspended from duty.

The spokesman said: “We are aware of the case and the officer involved remains suspended.”

Ahmed faces four charges of false representation under the Fraud Act and four charges under the Theft Act.

Ahmed and Khan are also jointly charged with a further charge of fraud by false representation, between December 1, 2008, and July 14, 2009, in which they are alleged to have claimed to have been a business partnership, trading as Asian Women and Girls Enterprise Project, to obtain finance for a Mercedes worth in excess of £30,000.

The charges: 1) Fraud by false representation, between August 20, 2008, and February 28, 2009, involving a residential mortgage 2) Obtaining pecuniary advantage by deception, under the Theft Act, between July 1, 2006, and October 31, 2008, involving an annuity contract 3) Fraud by false representation, to obtain a policy of insurance for a vehicle , between February 14, 2008, and December 22, 2008 4) Fraud by false representation, obtaining a licence of insurance for a vehicle between December 1, 2008, and March 13, 2009 5) Fraud by false representation, obtaining an insurance policy for a vehicle between February 2, 2007, and March 3, 2008; 6) Obtaining pecuniary advantage by deception, claiming to be employed in middle management to obtain a credit card, between March 1, 2003, and August 30, 2004; 7) Obtaining pecuniary advantage by deception, between March 1, 2003, and August 30, 2004, by purporting to earn £16,000r to obtain a loan of £10,000; 8) Obtaining pecuniary advantage by deception, between the same dates as count seven, claiming to earn £18,000 to obtain a loan of £10,000.
