A bumper crowd of around 350 saw Bradford Dudley Hill spike Bramley Buffaloes' unbeaten record for the season in LHF Healthplan National League Three.

However, it was a victory at a cost as Hill's full back Lewis Evans suffered a suspected broken ankle and ligament damage in the first half.

The home team, who have now won all seven of their matches this season in summer rugby league's fourth tier, were boosted beforehand by the return of brothers Ryan and Alex Dickinson.

While second-rower Sean - at 21 the eldest of the three brothers signed from Dudley Hill - has stayed with Sheffield Eagles, Alex, 20, and Ryan, 18, are on loan at Parry Lane.

Both started this keenly-anticipated derby, Ryan at stand-off and Alex at loose forward.

Buffaloes, winners of their first eight league games this season, got just the start they would have wished with a try in the fourth minute from stand-off Gavin Westwood.

However, Westwood was pulled up for a head-high tackle in the eighth minute and Tony Williams halved the deficit with the kick.

Not many Hill games go by without winger Jack Bradbury scoring a try, and many of them are from distance, and he was true to form in the 16th minute. He gathered a Bramley kick and went the length of the field to score, Williams converting for 8-4.

There was no further score until the 33rd minute when replacement wing-cum-centre Neil Wall managed a carbon copy of Bradbury's effort, the youngster having the presence of mind to go all the way.

Williams' goal made it 14-4, and five minutes later Bradbury got his second, this time after getting on the end of a Hill kick that was stabbed through. And the winger completed his hat-trick just before the interval, this time after a handling move.

Williams seems to be as frequent a try-scorer as Bradbury, and he got on the scoresheet for the first time in the match in the 45th minute, jinking and dummying his way over in trademark fashion.

Bramley began to push hard to get back in the match and were rewarded in the 47th minute with a try by centre Gavin Buckley, Paul Drake converting, but Hill replied four minutes later with an Alex Dickinson try after a blindside move.

The visitors' best spell of the match came just after the hour as they scored two tries in three minutes, the first coming from Craig Duda and the second from Buckley, which narrowed the margin to 32-18.

Ryan Dickinson was Hill's man of the match, prop Tim Orr taking the

equivalent award for the Buffaloes, and Wall's try was ajudged to be the game-breaker.

Hill's league match at Gateshead on Wednesday night has been postponed because their pitch is being re-seeded.
