Amjad Khan is a fine ambassador for his adopted city of Bradford. How many other people would commute for five hours every day to and from work in North Wales because they love the place where they live so much that they don't want to move?

Mr Khan says he feels at home here and appreciates the social life, shopping and sense of community. Clearly the father-of-five doesn't want to subject his family to the disruption that would be involved in uprooting them and moving them to Broughton, where they might not find that combination of qualities which make him feel so attached to Bradford.

Yet as well as being committed to them and to this city, he also loves his job so much that he is prepared to put in all those hours of travelling each week to be able to do it - an example to shame some of those people who can't even be bothered to stir themselves to make the trip down to the local job centre.

Mr Khan clearly does an excellent job for his company, aircraft manufacturer Airbus. As the quality engineer heading a team of seven people looking at the components of aircraft wings he helped the company to save £350,000 a year.

As a result, Mr Khan has become one of only three people in the country to receive a Quality Award from Airbus. It would be a further gesture of appreciation if the company also felt able to agree to his request to work extra hours Monday to Thursday so he can take Fridays off and save himself one of those long journeys.
