A new boss is set to take up the reins at Bradford's hospitals.

Miles Scott has been appointed chief executive of Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Bradford Royal Infirmary and St Luke's Hospital.

The Trust has faced financial troubles and a string of departures since last year.

Mr Scott, 38, who over the past four years has led the Harrogate Trust to the top of the national performance tables and achieved Foundation Trust status, will take over from interim boss Rose Stephens, who has been steering the flagship trust since chief executive David Jackson stepped down in March.

Mr Scott's salary has yet to be agreed but is expected to be about £135,000.

He said: "I am delighted with the appointment. The opportunity to apply my skills and experience to the challenge and potential of Bradford Teaching Hospitals is extremely exciting.

"I am familiar with many of the organisation's great strengths and, from my time with Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, I have also experienced the demands and opportunities of working with a diverse urban population.

"I will work tirelessly to further develop relationships with partner organisations, in particular the Primary Care Trusts, in pursuit of our vision for the future in Bradford and in order to maximise the potential of Foundation status in the district."

He added: "The dedication and hard work of staff forms the backbone for success. I am very keen to meet and work with Trust staff, helping to further engage them in the direction and leadership of the Trust."

Mr Scott will work with chairman designate David Richardson and a yet-to-be-appointed £100,000-a-year chief finance officer at the Trust which has seen its former chief executive, finance director and chairman depart since its financial problems emerged last year.

Mr Scott, whose start date has yet to be confirmed, will be looking to build on the Trust's performance in the past year, announced last week, which saw it beat all its waiting list and waiting time targets and reduce a forecast £11.3 million debt to £7.9 million.
