PRODUCERS of a television medical drama enlisted the help of an Ilkley theatre group as they turned the centre of Ilkley into a filming set.
Yorkshire Television took over Ilkley Town Hall and much of Station Road yesterday to film for an episode of The Royal, a 1960s Yorkshire hospital drama started as a spin-off from popular Yorkshire-based police television series Heartbeat.
They were ably assisted by members of the Ilkley Upstagers, who were not only involved in the filming itself, but gave the company use of their own base, The Barn.
The Barn, at the rear of the Midland Hotel on Station Road, houses the Upstagers' rehearsal studio, workshops, prop storage and set design area. The group puts on three shows each year including an annual pantomime in Ilkley. The Ilkley Upstagers' next show will be a production of Guys and Dolls at the Alhambra Theatre, Bradford, from June 21-25.
