Steeton lead the way in the Airedale and Wharfedale Second Teams League after recording two excellent wins over the Bank Holiday weekend.

On Saturday they notched a seven wickets success over visitors Bilton who posted a more than useful 232-9 thanks to 85 from opener Simon Clemerson and 67 from fellow opener Darren Simpson. This pair shared an opening stand of 131.

Steeton hit back with opener Anjal Patanker making 61 and Robert Wynn 68 not out.

On Monday Steeton entertained Guiseley and dismissed their visitors for 153 with Steven Roberts bagging 3-42 off 17 overs, David Cook 3-50 and R Robinson 3-31. Only a late flourish by A Bell (35), P Nicholson (30 no) and Joe Davies (23) gave Guiseley a respectable score.

Opener Patanker was again in good form hitting 46 and J Higginson hit 39 as victory was gained in 43 overs.

A half century from Sean Atkinson saw Otley to a four wickets win over Adel on Saturday but that was a mere taster of what was to come on Monday when the former Bradford League batsman hit a magnificent 153 not out as Otley totalled 306-4 against Burley.

He shared a fourth wicket stand of 150 with Michael Smith (69) and then A Bailey added an unbeaten 49. Burley hung on at 136-7 in reply to bag a point with Roy Broadley making an unbeaten 36. Another batsman amongst the runs was Green Lane's S Parkinson with a superb 92 in his side's 5-1 draw with North Leeds.

Kirkstall's R Caddy blasted an unbeaten 90 and shared a first wicket stand of 97 with Dave Wonfor (54) as their side rubbed off the Burley score of 219-9 on Saturday.

Another century maker was Menston's Mike Pratt who hit 114 not out as his side totalled 218-7 at Colton. He had excellent support from young Richard Truswell who made 72. Colton however rubbed off the runs with 79 from D Precious and 46 from M Boyle.

The conditions seemed to be suiting the batsmen but one bowler who was happy was Addingham's G Barton who took 8-63 off 22 overs to set up a seven wickets win for his side over Bardsey.

Calverley had a century maker in opener D Hall whose 107 not out saw his side to a seven wickets win over Hall Park for whom C Barker and Neil Cowgill made half-centuries.

Bilton's Chris Dawson hit an unbeaten 102 in his side's 275-3 which proved too many for Pool who settled for the draw at 132-8. Tong Park's T Clayton had a good return of 6-32 to halt Addingham in their tracks in a drawn game.
