OVER 200 young footballers were handed trophies at Guiseley Juniors AFC presentation night at Yeadon Town Hall on Friday.

Bradford City striker Dean Windass patiently handed over a trophy to every junior member of the club which now boasts over 20 teams.

This season the club has added Under-15 and Under-16 boys teams and a girls team to their tally with further teams planned for next season. Team managers introduced their teams from the stage and each player was awarded a trophy with special awards going to each team's Player-of-the-Year etc.

The Ann Kirsima Award for service to the club was presented to Kevin Exley.

Around 50 volunteer workers were presented with FA Workforce certificates for their work with the club.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Charter Standard Community Award to the club by West Riding FA member Reg Allwood.

He said that only 16 clubs in the county had received this award and Guiseley were the first Wharfedale FA club to reach this level.

He said that it reflected well on the work carried out by the club and the good practices they are implementing to provide soccer for girls and boys from the age of six through to the senior teams playing in the UniBond and Lancashire Leagues.

He congratulated the club on its achievement and said that it reflected well the hard work put in by everyone to achieve Community Standard status.

Guiseley Juniors boasts teams at all levels leading from under-6 to in the coming season Under-17 who provide the link to the main Guiseley AFC club's U-19, reserve and first teams.

It now means that a player can join the club at six and go right through to representing it at semi-professional level.

The junior players have a close link with the senior club with each junior player being given a membership card which allows them free entry to senior games at Nethermoor Park and last season many of the junior players were seen supporting the senior teams and enjoying the highlight of the season - the County Cup win over Halifax Town at Woodlesford.
