ON a scorching weekend which at last brought some real cricket weather Ilkley were celebrating off field action rather than onfield.

They were reinstated in the Waddilove Cup after it was found that their second round victors Skipton had played an ineligible player.

Ilkley Secretary Jim Scally said: "We live to fight another day. It has been an unusual cup competition this time around with faster scoring rates and bowling at the wicket featuring to decide results. It seems more of a lottery now but that is how the clubs wanted it, that is what they voted for."

Skipton had beaten Ilkley on a faster run-rate in the rain affected tie on May 22 but the result has now been reversed and the game awarded to Ilkley after it was found that Skipton had played a player, Richard Walker, who had earlier figured in a Birtwhistle Cup game for Silsden.

Walker batted at number four and scored 16 runs as Skipton posted a score of 181-6 off 38 overs. He also took 1-9 as Ilkley were restricted to 61-4 off 15.4 overs in reply before the rain came. He dismissed Ilkley skipper Chris Quaife for nine.

Skipton were then declared the winners on the faster scoring rate.

On May 8 Walker had played for Silsden seconds in their Birtwhistle Cup defeat by Hall Park. In this game he took 0-25 off five overs and then made seven not out.

The revised third round of the Waddilove Cup, to be played on Sunday, June 19, is:

Beckwithshaw v Ilkley, Burley v Bilton, North Leeds v Harden, Steeton v Follifoot.

The third round of the Birtwhistle Cup, also to be played on Sunday, June 19, is:

Kirkstall Educational v Hall Park, Bilton v Adel, Harden v Green Lane, Pool v Upper Wharfedale.

The draw for the first round of the Ian Chappell Third Teams Cup, to be played on Sunday, June 12, is:

North Leeds v Knaresborough, Steeton v Beckwithshaw, Burley v Ilkley, Rawdon v Horsforth, Calverley v Thackley, Bilton v Colton, Green Lane v Kirkstall Educational, Guiseley v Otley.

Ilkley will be hoping to build on Monday's success against local rivals Menston when they are reinstated in the cup. They batted first in Monday's league game and although they only posted a modest 157 all out they dismissed Menston for 136 with former Burley bowler Richard Harrison bagging 5-40 off 25 overs. He had good support from skipper Chris Quaife who took 3-28 off 12 overs to follow up his top score of 56 in the Ilkley innings. Opener David Lester battled hard for Menston with a fine 60.

Otley continued their excellent form in Division A notching a two wickets win over Burley who had made 215-8 with opener M Harrison making 75 and Jamie Davey 52. For Otley opener Sam Smith made 49 and Matthew O'Grady 48 as they got home with just three balls to spare.

Guiseley picked up four points from a drawn game with Tong Park after psoting 232-8. Opener Simon Ross went cheaply but brother Mark with a superb 91 and Graeme Wolfenden with 51 resurrected things. They shared a second wicket stand of 148 despite the efforts of Chris Shepherd who took 6-72.

Nick Murden was again in good form for Tong Park and he hit 78 and shared a second wicket stand of 79 with Chander Sheikhar (54) as Tong replied with 202-7 in a brave reply.

Adel were dismissed for 93 as Follifoot's excellent all round bowling attack had their measure. Follifoot had earlier made 186-5 with a magnificent 85 from Mike Halmshaw.

There were few superlatives left to describe Bilton's opening stand of 249 between Miles Corish and Tim Sheehan. Corish made 133 and Sheehan 124 not out as their side posted a glorious 270-2. Beckwithshaw hung on for a point in reply with 1909-8, Simon Barker top scoring with 59.

In Division B Bardsey's S Bowes cracked 90 before being run out against Collingham who went on to win by five wickets.

Pool's Simon Dart had another bad day but 47 from David Singleton and 36 from Paul Wilkinson steered them to a three wickets win over Knaresborough.

There was a century for Calverley's B Platt who hit 116 as his side totalled 286-8 against Thackley who replied with 215-8.

Alwoodley's Phil Horsey hammered 96 as his side made 202 agauinst Colton who then knocked off the runs for the loss of three wickets with 64 from opener Danny Gautrey.

Ben Rhydding bagged full points in their match with Olicanians after setting a target of 247-6 with Wade Kilbourne making 106. Olicanians fell for 139 in reply.
