Vandals have struck at a junior football club's playing fields.

Two converted containers used as changing rooms were broken into and a generator dragged across the site.

Tuesday's incident is the latest in a series of attacks on property at the Bront School playing fields in Goose Cote Lane, Oakworth.

Now Oakworth Juniors Football Club -- whose 15 teams use the fields -- is reviewing security at the site.

And it is appealing to local residents to help provide "eyes and ears" and report anything suspicious.

Someone living close to the playing fields alerted police and the club on Tuesday afternoon when youths were spotted tampering with the containers.

Club secretary Richard Hewitt told us: "We discovered that two of the containers had been broken into and the generator -- used to provide lighting --was missing.

"The youths had also unsuccessfully tried to get into a third container.

"We later found the generator at the bottom of the playing fields, hidden in some long grass.

"We are now going to have to invest in new locks and look at our security in general.

"As a voluntary body relying on its own efforts to meet day-to-day running costs, that is expense we could do without. Although we have not had break-ins before, vandalism at the site is an on-going problem. Youths hang around there.

"A neighbour saw what was happening on Tuesday and raised the alarm, and I would ask others who spot anything untoward to contact the police immediately."

Bradford Council, which owns the site, says it will do what it can to help the club combat the problems.

Principal parks and landscapes manager John Scholefield told us: "We will assist Oakworth Junior Football Club by asking the park rangers to call in when they are passing.

"The club leases the land from us, and we cut the grass and mark out the pitches. The club is responsible for any buildings, but we will do what we can to help."
