Danny Cadamarteri is close to a Valley Parade return.

Sources at Sheffield United believe that a City deal to bring back Cadamarteri, one of seven players transfer-listed by boss Neil Warnock earlier this week, could soon be struck.

Colin Todd has already publicly expressed an interest in the player, who left during administration just under a year ago.

He said today: "He is definitely one on my list and we'll have to wait and see."

The 25-year-old Cleckheaton-born hitman joined the Blades for £50,000 from Leeds after an unsuccessful stop-off with the Elland Road club.

He made only one sub appearance for Leeds before moving to South Yorkshire where he started 14 Championship games.

Cadamarteri was troubled again by the injury problems that have blighted his career but, after missing the last couple of months of the season with a damaged thigh, he is now back to peak fitness.

During his 29 months with City, Cadamarteri scored six times in 53 matches but he played only a quarter of the 2003-2004 campaign because of knee and hamstring lay-offs.

The former England under-21 international's acceleration would offer City an extra attacking dimension to regular front pair Dean Windass and Andy Cooke and he can also operate wide.

Todd knows Cadamarteri has all the attributes to be a major influence at League One level - as long as he steers clear of the treatment room.
