Bulls chairman Chris Caisley has confirmed the club's interest in Halifax hooker Ben Fisher, saying any deal for the Australian will likely be completed in the next 48 hours.

Halifax yesterday claimed to have rejected a formal offer for the 24-year-old and Caisley confirmed he was one of two players the club are chasing to fill the vacant hooking role.

"We have looked at this player and given it some thought and have had a tentative chat to Halifax," said Caisley.

"It hasn't gone a great deal further than that. We'll be reviewing the matter over the next 48 hours."

Halifax football manager Paul Dixon said the club had rejected the Bulls' initial offer but were prepared to let Fisher go.

"What they are proposing at the moment isn't acceptable and the ball is back in their court," said Dixon.

"No one here wants to stand in the kid's way because he has earned the chance to show what he can do at a higher level."

A British passport holder, Fisher would not count on the Bulls' overseas player quota.

A former reserve grade forward of the year with South Sydney, who also spent three years in the Sydney Roosters' system, Fisher joined Halifax from North Sydney Bears at the start of this season, scoring ten tries in 18 appearances for the national League One club.

Meanwhile, Brian Noble has warned his Bulls troops to be wary of the in-form Widnes Vikings, who visit Odsal on Sunday. The Vikings have peeled off three wins in their last five matches to resurrect what had looked a relegation-doomed campaign.

"If you look at their recent results they have been very good," said Noble. "They are a tough team and they have added Julian O'Neil. All of their people are healthy so it is important we aim up again.

Rotund stand-off Owen Craigie was the chief architect of the Vikings' first-ever Super League defeat of the Bulls in February.

"I thought we aimed up against Huddersfield. Defensively we were very, very tough. With a little bit of fluidity with the ball we will be a force to be reckoned with again."
