Horsforth Golf Club members stood to cheer a 12 year-old golfer off the 18th green on Saturday after he had achieved a hole-in-one.

Some golfers go a lifetime without achieving the feat but in the club's June Medal and Green Emmott qualifier on Saturday young Jack Ryan, an 18 handicap player, did so while partnered by his father Sean and grandfather John.

At the 15th tee Jack faced the 197 yard par 3. He picked up his driver and hit his drive and holed-in-one.

On what was a real family occasion Jack's uncle, Simon Meadows, was playing in the group ahead.

He saw the ball Jack had hit disappear into the hole. Jack finished his round with a nett 76.

Horsforth Club Captain Mick Thorpe said: "Obviously a lot of cheering could be heard and the smile on Jack's face as he walked off the 18th green was absolutely fantastic as he was congratulated by all those present.

"His dad honoured the occasion in the traditional way and provided a drink for those in the clubhouse and as it was a Saturday competition day there were plenty of takers!

"I as Club Captain was really pleased to be there and see the immense pleasure it gave not only to Jack but also to his dad and grandad."
