Silsden-based Formula One Stock Car racing driver, Frankie Wainman jnr (515) was crowned Scottish Champion at the weekend.

For Wainman it was the fifth consecutive time he had won the title.

Racing the Berridge Wastepaper V8 Chevrolet, Frank was determined to put his name on the trophy again and he won his opening qualifying heat from World Champion Peter Falding.

When the green flag dropped on the Championship Wainman made his way through the grid and by half way was lying third.

The race was brought under caution to remove a stricken car from the track and on the restart Wainman moved up to take the lead with Paul Hines in hot pursuit. But Wainman then went on to record the fastest lap and take the chequered flag, winning the title for the fifth time.

"The car was going so well, and we broke the lap record set at the Cowdenbeath Raceway. The Scottish fans are excellent and help make the event special. I enjoy our annual visit to Scotland for the race weekend." Frankie Wainman Jnr said.

Wainman will be hoping to qualify for the 2005 World Championships in September, but the semi-finals in July are to be contested first.

Wainman is ranked number one in the country.
