Keighley's 100 per cent record in all competitions continued at the weekend with a victory in the Heavy Woollen Cup over first division Saltaire.

Due to an odd number of teams in the league, Keighley did not have a fixture on Saturday but Saltaire were the visitors to Lawkholme Lane on Sunday. The visitors batted first and found the going quite tough to start with and struggled to make any headway eventually being dismissed for a total of 150.

This was thanks mainly to number three batsman Munawar who hit a quikfire 59. One of Keighley's strengths this year has been their depth in bowling which was underlined as all five bowlers chipped in with steady performances. Skipper Steve Reape was miserly in his alloted 10 overs with figures of 1-12 backed up by the pace of talisman Ross Towler and Nick Austin who returned figures of 3-34 and 2-24 respectively. The mercurial spin of Richard Robinson claimed 2-25 whereas Alexander Towler swung his way to 2-52.

In reply Keighley made an uncertain start losing three wickets for a mere 2 runs. Richard Robinson and Nick Austiin were rebuilding the innings when play was abandoned late Sunday evening as a result of delays caused by a lengthy spell of rain earlier in the day. Austin finished with a classy 61 whereas shining light Robinson was still there late Monday evening to hit the winning runs booking Keighley's passage into the next round with an unbeaten 64.

Keighley are back in league action this Saturday with the visit of Bowling Old Lane and will be looking to consolidate there position at the top of the league. Sunday sees a home tie with Manningham Mills in the Priestley Cup where victory will secure a mouth watering semi final place.

The Second XI secured a 14-run win over Kirkheaton thanks to a solid team performance. P Smith (45) and A Coppen (41) led the batting.

Kirkheaton were restricted to 143-7 as the bowlers shared out the wickets.
