WHARFEDALE'S own Twenty/20 competition, this year sponsored by Greenholme Mills Carpet Centre, has proved a major success with large crowds turning out to watch the games.

Last Thursday was no exception and two great games ensued.

Pool played host to Ben Rhydding and with almost 430 runs scored in less than 40 overs the crowd was treat to some fine shot making.

Pool batted first and with David Singleton (64), Steve Wood (60) and Paul Wilkinson (44) all on fine form they racked up a massive 212-5 from their 20 overs.

Surely this was too many for Ben Rhydding to chase but chase it they did.

Aussie Wade Kilborn smashed 87 from just 42 balls and was ably supported by Gerald Kirby (41) and their guest player Addingham's Aussie Toby Stapledon (35).

Ben Rhydding got home with nine balls to spare to set up a semi-final clash at Otley on June 23.

The other match saw Olicanians visit Ilkley and a big crowd enjoyed another fine game.

Olicanians batted first and made an excellent 184 from their 20 overs. Guest player Craig Thornton, the former Yeadon skipper now playing with East Bierley, top scored with 70.

The Olicanians' score proved too many for Ilkley despite some huge blows from Michael Sant (44) and Kiwi Leighton Parsons (56).

Ilkley finished 40 runs short and this means Olicanians visit Burley in the first semi-final tonight, Thursday, at 6.30 pm.
