Telegraph & Argus readers are donating sackloads of toys to help Little Heroes this Christmas.

Gifts to raise a smile for children with cancer are being dropped off daily at the T&A’s head office in Hall Ings, Bradford.

And Colin Nesbitt who runs the Little Heroes Cancer Trust says the heart-warming response has been filling him with much festive cheer.

Readers have until Monday, December 21, to bring presents for the charity’s Christmas Toydrive appeal to be delivered to hospital wards.

Mr Nesbitt, whose charity was a winner in the T&A’s Bradford’s Best Awards, asked people to buy an extra present for the Little Heroes’ stocking when they were dashing about shopping for friends and family.

The gifts will be delivered to youngsters being treated at children’s wards at Bradford Royal Infirmary, Airedale General Hospital and at the regional cancer unit at St James’s Hospital, Leeds.

Mr Nesbitt, 48, who set up the trust in January, has already been using the prize money from being named best community project in the Bradford’s Best Awards, to buy more toys. He wants to get £6,000 worth of goodies on local wards by Christmas morning.

“It just shows that even in times of the credit crunch the generosity of Bradford people is extreme. Thank you so much,” he said.

The appeal has been boosted by a convoy of fundraising motorcycling Santas and toys collected by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Women’s Association.

Mr Nesbitt was inspired to set up the Little Heroes charity by the little boy he is full-time carer for, four-year-old Reece Randall who was diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia when he was one.

Gifts should be unused and suitable for children up to 15 years. Please do not wrap them. They can be dropped off at collection points unwrapped at: T&A, Hall Ings, Bradford; Keighley News in North Street, Keighley; Ilkley Gazette in Wells Road, Ilkley, and the Craven Herald in High Street, Skipton.
