Electrician Liam Stone is offering free house checks for Bradford residents to help reduce the risk of injuries and deaths in the home due to electrical faults.

Government statistics show that every year up to 4,000 people are injured and 30 die due to faulty electrics.

Liam, who runs Clayton-based Mr Electric, believes more people are risking their lives by cutting household maintenance costs and undertaking extra DIY.

Liam, an NICEIC-approved contractor domestic installer, said: “Electrical dangers at home are avoidable if people use the right experts for the right jobs.

“I hear more reports of people doing their own electrical DIY or using non-approved electricians. The recession means everyone is looking to save money where they can, but the true cost can be people’s lives.”

Liam, an electrician for more than eight years, is the only Mr Electric franchise operator in the Bradford district. He hopes his professional expertise will see his business grow and take on another five electricians in the next two years.

His free check includes a 45-minute visual assessment of the home, focusing on wiring and electric shock risks.

Liam said: “Offering my time free of charge to help homeowners better understand any electrical risks, or to take comfort from knowing their electrics are in good working order, is an investment in a safer future for local residents.

“Badly fitted and maintained electrical fittings can be the biggest risk in the home. Unlike gas or water, you can’t smell or see electricity. I’m asking people to be extra vigilant, understand the warning signs and call in an expert.”
