The young ones shone at a five-a-side soccer tournament at Zara Sports Centre at Belle Vue Girls’ School.
For the first time, Year Four pupils were allowed to take part in the Primary Schoolgirls’ competition, and they didn’t look out of place.
“It was obvious that they had been coached and they were passing the ball around well,” said tournament organiser Sanjeb Kumar, a learning mentor at Heaton Primary School. “In fact, they were better than some of the older girls.”
Year Five and Six pupils were also competing, and the competition was won by Lidget Green, who beat Heaton 4-0 in the final.
The other primary schools which took part were Allerton, Brackenhill and Westbourne. Heaton St Barnabus had to pull out.
