Gomersal Methodist Church is preparing for a patriotic weekend.
Members are hosting a brass band concert similar to the BBC’s Last Night of the Proms tomorrow evening. A limited number of tickets are available for the 7.15pm performance by Slaithwaite Brass Band.
Proceeds from the event will go towards preventing the closure of the iconic church, known locally as ‘pork pie chapel’ for its circular construction.
Members fear if they cannot raise funds it could be forced to close.
Their dilemma was caused after they lost revenue from the Sunday School building adjacent to the church in Latham Lane which they previously hired out to organisations. The school building fell into disrepair and was put on the market.
The building is now being sold with planning permission for houses and the revenue will be put back into upgrading the church.
