Contractors had to dig up part of a newly-resurfaced road in the middle of Pool-in-Wharfedale because a water pipe burst.
Leeds City Council had just completed a resurfacing project which saw two major roads closed over three weekends.
A Yorkshire Water spokesman said: “We were talking to Leeds Council before it did the roadworks because while it was digging up the roads we were able to have a close look at a pipe that has caused a few problems and carried out the repair to it.
“Then the resurfacing went ahead and was completed but the pipe, unfortunately, burst again at a different location so we had to go back and fix it.
“If we had left it then it would have caused more damage in the long run.”
