companies have given a triple boost to the Manorlands hospice, at Oxenhope.

The Sue Ryder hospice, which last week launched a special plea for more help during its 35th anniversary year, is delighted with the offers.

Area fundraising manager Jodie Shepherd said: “We rely on voluntary contributions for the majority of our £2 million running costs and the support of local businesses continues to mean a great deal to us.”

Family-run Stairlifts UK Ltd is to make a monthly donation from its profits. The Cross Hills business was launched last month .

Jodie said: “We were delighted to be approached by Stairlifts UK Ltd. It is great to see new companies being set up, particularly during these difficult economic times and it is especially kind of them to want to support us.”

Peter Macdonald, director of Stairlifts UK Ltd, said a close family member who had been cared for at Manorlands died last year.

“It seemed the natural choice to try to give something back to the hospice,” he said.

The Mobile Phone Recycling Organisation (MPRO) is donating £3 to the hospice for every handset it receives.

A further £2 will be given for any phone that can be reconditioned and sold on. And if the phone is relatively new, it could be worth up to £200 — with the difference to the donator.

MPRO technical director Johann Shepherd said: “This is an easy and environmentally friendly way to dispose of your old mobile phone and turn it into cash for yourself as well as doing your bit for a very worthy local charity.”

MPRO — formed two years ago — was originally based in Keighley but moved to bigger premises in Shipley late last year.

For a freepost envelope to submit a phone contact MPRO on 0845 833 9995, log on to recyclemy.mobi or pick one up from Manorlands.

Staff at Silsden-based conveyor belt business Habasit Rossi collected £525 for the hospice through their Christmas raffle.

Their employer match-funded the effort, doubling the charitable total to £1,050.

Richard Smith, UK general manager at Habasit Rossi, said: “Manorlands hospice is an extremely worthwhile cause.

“It is great that we have been able to contribute such a significant amount of money to this local charity and I wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who participated in the raffle.”

Jodie said: “ This really is a fantastic amount.”
