Bus bells gave way to wedding bells as a Bradford transport chief tied the knot.

Councillor Chris Greaves, chairman of Metro, the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Authority, is on the road to happiness after his big day ran to schedule.

For the next eight days he will happily swap the trains and buses of West Yorkshire for a somewhat more exotic form of transport.

Coun Greaves and his new wife, Sue Cleasby, will set sail on a voyage to New York onboard the Queen Victoria cruise ship.

The wedding was at the Marriot Hollins Hall Hotel and Country Club in Baildon.

Coun Greaves, who also represents the Wharfedale ward as a Tory councillor on Bradford Council, said: “It went very well indeed and everyone had a great day. I would recommend Hollins Hall to anyone.

“The weather was dry but foggy.”

To tie in with the Christmas theme, the wedding cake was decorated with 50 ‘snowballs’, which were really chocolate truffle cakes.

The wedding rounded off an eventful year for Coun Greaves, who was elected to the prestigious role of chairman of Metro in the summer.

Since then, Metro has been named the best Passenger Transport Authority in the country for a record-breaking fourth time.

After picking up the award at a recent ceremony, Coun Greaves said: “We are particularly proud to have won for a record-breaking fourth time, because it is awarded by our colleagues in the transport industry.”

Achievements that helped Metro to the award included the ongoing roll-out of the yournextbus real-time information system, and the introduction of the hugely popular FreeCityBus service in four urban areas of West Yorkshire, including Bradford.

Earlier this year, the 150th My Bus Yellow Bus was introduced to West Yorkshire to transport children to school.
