A woman lost her fight for life just two days before a group of cyclists set off on a charity ride in her name.
The condition of Sherryl Chad, 50, from Silsden, diagnosed with a brain tumour in February, suddenly deteriorated and she died in Manorlands hospice.
The cyclists set off and raised £2,000 for charity riding 40 miles from Keighley to Leeds and back.
They set off from the Shoulder of Mutton pub, in Thwaites, and travelled along the towpath of the Leeds-Liverpool Canal.
Organiser Mary McClennon was motivated by the experience of Sherryl, her daughter-in-law.
Mrs McClennon said the proceeds of the ride would be split between Manorlands and the oncology unit at Airedale Hospital, where Sherryl had been treated. Among the 21 people who completed the challenge was Mrs McClennon’s 13-year-old grandson Alex Keating, whose bike was stolen from outside his home last month.
Andy Thompson, a customer at the Shoulder of Mutton, donated a last-minute replacement. Licensee James McGuiness carried out some maintenance work on the machine and Alex participated as planned.
