New housing tenants have been offered free smoke alarms and fire safety advice as a housing trust links up with the West Yorkshire Fire Service.
As part of their move to a house with Incommunities house, formerly Brad-ford Community Housing Trust, tenants in Shipley are being contacted by firefighters to arrange a visit. During the visit crews will install free smoke alarms on each level in the home.
Advice will also be given on preventing a fire in the home and how to take care using appliances.
James Healy, director of the Incommunities office in Shipley, said: “The safety of our customers is paramount and through this partnership with the Fire and Rescue Service we are delighted to offer all new tenants moving into homes in the Shipley area this invaluable free safety advice. We would urge all our tenants to take up a free home fire safety check.”
Shipley fire station manager Mick Popple said: “We are delighted to work with Incommunities to offer fire safety advice to all its new tenants.
“Smoke detectors, though essential in every home, are only a part of the service we wish to offer.
“Preventing the fire in the first place is the most important thing.”
