A murder trial jury has been sent home for a second time after failing to reach a verdict after 11 hours of deliberation.

The jury of five women and seven men began considering the evidence against 25-year-old John Kinsella on Friday and resumed its deliberations this morning.

Late this afternoon the Honorary Recorder of Bradford Judge Stephen Gullick brought them back into court and told them they were being sent home.

Kinsella has denied being involved in the murder of 39-year-old Ross Keenan, who suffered multiple injuries when he was attacked in his home in Holme Top Lane, Little Horton, last December.

Kinsella’s 23-year-old brother, David, known as Micky, has already pleaded guilty to murdering Mr Keenan.

The deceased was attacked in his home with various weapons including a knife and a meat cleaver.

The brothers lived on the same street as Mr Keenan and Bradford Crown Court heard during the trial how the deceased was in a relationship with their sister, Kelly.

Mr Keenan’s daughter Tifani was in a relationship with Micky Kinsella and it is said the deceased was not thrilled about the news she was pregnant.

The prosecution alleges the brothers were jointly involved in the attack on Mr Keenan, but John Kinsella told the jury earlier last week that he had found him fighting with his younger brother when he went into his house. Kinsella claimed he was trying to split the men up when he was cut on the hand.

He admitted getting on top of Mr Keenan and punching him three or four times in the face, but said he panicked when he saw more blood on Mr Keenan’s body.

Kinsella said he dragged his younger brother out of the house and they later burned their blood-stained clothing in the car park of St Luke’s Hospital.

The trial continues.
