Good on the MCC for giving Kevin Pietersen’s amazing switch-hit the all clear.
Of course there is nothing illegal or “against the spirit of the game” with his ability to change stance from right to left hand as the bowler delivers and then hoik the resulting delivery into the stands.
The traditionalists argue that it is unfair on the bowler. And the issues with wides and lbw have to be addressed.
But it’s not as if the KP shot will become the norm. No doubt, there will be an imitator or two on the village green this weekend – and most of them will have their stumps skittled when they realise how impossible it is.
It’s a one-off shot from a one-off player.
