A TAKEAWAY that had an "active pest infestation" has been allowed to re-open only weeks after a damning food hygiene inspection shut it down.
Pizza Junction, located on Bradford Road in Bailiff Bridge, Brighouse, was subject to a routine inspection by Calderdale Council’s Environmental Health team in May.
The business offers a broad menu including pizzas, calzones, burgers, kebabs, chicken sides, chips, desserts, and milkshakes.
The visit led to an immediate closure of the premises under a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Notice - but it's since been allowed to re-open.
What the routine inspection uncovered
A spokesperson for Calderdale Council said: "Our Environmental Health team regularly checks all food premises in Calderdale.
"This is to protect people by making sure businesses maintain the high standards that customers and staff deserve.
"The team did a routine inspection of Pizza Junction in May 2026 and found an active pest infestation in the food preparation areas.
"Due to the public health and food contamination risks, we immediately closed the premises under a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Notice."
Why the takeaway was allowed to reopen
The council said that a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Order was later granted by the court, meaning the business had to remain closed until the infestation was fully dealt with.
The council spokesperson added: "Several weeks later, we allowed the business to reopen because it had taken successful pest control action and removed the infestation.
"Our Environmental Health team confirmed this on one of its regular visits to the premises, which will continue.
"This is to make sure it complies with national food safety and hygiene law.
"The zero rating will remain until our next full inspection in the coming weeks.
"We encourage people to check food hygiene ratings when choosing where to eat."
What the food hygiene report said
The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme scores businesses from zero to five, with a zero indicating "urgent improvement necessary".
A score of zero means inspectors identified major problems with food safety or hygiene on the day of the visit.
According to the summary of findings on the food inspection report seen by the T&A, the takeaway was found to have "serious issues" with the way food was prepared, cooked, reheated, cooled and stored.
Some basic food safety systems or checks were in place, and staff showed some level of food safety knowledge.
It should be noted that the food inspection report is different to the routine inspection carried out by the council that established the pest problem.
The T&A has requested the full food hygiene report and welcomes a response from Pizza Junction having not heard back from them thus far.
