One of West Yorkshire's busiest motorway service stations has now fully reopened after a police incident caused hours of disruption throughout the morning.
National Highways said it was made aware of the situation at Moto Wetherby services on the A1 after being contacted by police at 2.37am.
Parts of the site were closed for several hours, prompting confusion among motorists who reported seeing a significant police presence and restrictions on access to some areas.
However, National Highways has since confirmed that the services have now fully reopened.
Witnesses report disruption and confusion
Motorists travelling past the popular service station earlier in the day reported seeing a significant police presence and believed the majority of the site had been closed.
One motorist told the Telegraph & Argus: "I'm a regular commuter and use Wetherby Services every day. This is the first time I've known the whole service station to be closed apart from if you want fuel.
"There was a lot of confusion. Families were trying to access the car park but temporary barriers were erected to prevent cars going in, with some staff directing motorists back onto the motorway.
"There were a number of police cars in attendance and clearly a big police presence.
"Anyone wanting to charge an electric car is out of luck as all the chargers are off-limits."
Main building earlier closed
Earlier in the day, National Highways said checks with Moto at around 9am found that the main services building remained closed, but the fuel station remained open.
In an update sent later on Tuesday, National Highways said: "I have just been informed that the services have now fully reopened."
Questions remain over police activity
The nature of the police incident has not yet been confirmed.
West Yorkshire Police has been approached for further information.
