Health partners across Bradford district are encouraging residents to reassess their drinking habits during Alcohol Awareness Week

The campaign, running July 6 to 12, promotes the use of the free DrinkCoach app, which includes access to up to six one-to-one coaching sessions tailored to help individuals better understand and manage their alcohol consumption.

Led by Living Well and New Vision Bradford, the campaign takes a personal approach under the theme 'Alcohol and Me.'

Cllr Jayne Margaret Morgan, portfolio holder for healthy people at Bradford Council, said: "Alcohol can become part of everyday life in ways people do not always notice.

"It may be connected with relaxing after work, managing stress, socialising or simply getting through a hard week.

"Alcohol Awareness Week is an opportunity for everyone across Bradford district to pause, reflect and ask themselves: 'How does alcohol feature in my life?'

"The theme for this year's campaign, 'Alcohol and Me,' has been chosen to make that reflection personal and relevant.

"By downloading the DrinkCoach app, people can access confidential guidance on their drinking habits and practical support to help make gradual, positive changes.

"Bradford district residents can also book up to six free 40-minute coaching sessions with a specialist DrinkCoach coach, with flexible appointments available during the day, evenings and weekends."

The DrinkCoach app allows users to track their drinking, set goals, and access confidential coaching, with sessions available through the day, evening, and weekend to suit different schedules.

New Vision Bradford, the district’s alcohol and drug support service, is marking the week with a series of pop-up events across the district.

Events include:

  • Tuesday, July 7: Bradford Royal Infirmary (1pm–3pm) and Airedale Shopping Centre (10am–4pm)
  • Wednesday, July 8: Broadway Shopping Centre (10am–4pm)
  • Thursday, July 9: Tesco Superstore, Peel Centre, and Odsal Stadium for the Liver Buddies event (both 10am–4pm)

Trained staff will offer alcohol audits, advice, and signposting to services at each event.

Anyone living in the Bradford district—including Bingley, Keighley, and Shipley—who is concerned about their own or someone else’s alcohol or drug use can contact New Vision Bradford.

The service is available on 01274 296023, Monday to Friday from 9.15am to 5.15pm.

Alternatively, referrals can be made online at newvisionbradford.org.uk.

Residents can download the DrinkCoach app at any time, with funded coaching offered to everyone living in the district.
