A BRADFORD district boxer is getting ready to defend his English title this weekend.

Keighley boxer Ibrahim Nadim won the super featherweight belt in November against Numan Hussain in Bolton, a year on from claiming the central area title against Adam Rasool.

Tomorrow, he takes on the undefeated Ibrahim Sulaimaan (10-0), of Birmingham, on a Matchroom show, live on DAZN from Sheffield.

Ricky Hatton tribute

His triumph over Hussain was tinged with real sadness.

It came just two months after the devastating death of his trainer, and much-loved British boxing legend, Ricky Hatton.

Speaking ahead of his bout with Hussain last year, Nadim said: “I’ll carry everything Ricky has taught me into my future fights forever.

“I’m going to dedicate my next fight to him as well.”

Nadim added: “He was a top guy, very funny and very nice.

“It just shows that the meanest people in the ring, they’re not always like that outside of it.

“They can be the softest people outside of the ring and Ricky was like that.”

Nadim fought superbly on the night, winning the 10-round bout via unanimous decision to improve his overall record to 16-1.
