Untaxed vehicles from the streets of Keighley removed

Operation targets problem areas

Officers from the Keighley Neighbourhood Policing Team worked alongside Bradford Council on Tuesday morning, focusing on areas including West Lane and Highfield.

The action followed reports from members of the public about vehicles suspected of being untaxed or improperly declared off the road.

Vehicles illegally left on public roads

A total of 10 vehicles were seized during the operation. All were either untaxed or registered as SORN (Statutory Off-Road Notification) despite being parked on public roads.

Vehicles declared SORN must be kept off public highways, making it illegal for them to be left on the street.

Further offences uncovered

While carrying out the operation, officers also stopped two additional vehicles for unrelated reasons.

Both drivers were found to be uninsured, with one also not holding a valid driving licence.

The vehicles were seized, and the drivers have been reported for the relevant offences.

Public urged to report concerns

Police are encouraging residents to continue reporting untaxed vehicles in their communities.

Anyone who is aware of a vehicle that may be untaxed can report it anonymously via the GOV.UK website.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said “This morning, officers from Keighley Neighbourhood Policing Team have been working alongside Bradford Council to remove untaxed vehicles from Keighley's roads.

“Acting on previous reports from the public, 10 vehicles were removed from the areas of West Lane and Highfield. These were all either untaxed or declared SORN despite being parked on public roads.

“Whilst taking part in the operation, we also had cause to stop 2 other vehicles, unrelated to tax. Both were found to be being driven with no insurance, with one of the driver's also being a non-licence holder, both of these vehicles were seized by police and the driver's reported for the relevant offences.
