VISITORS have spoken about an "awful smell" that "ruined the evening at Bradford Live" last night as the pong seeped into the entertainment venue.
Bradford city centre has a long history of a foul smell permeating throughout the area on random days.
Sometimes, you forget it has ever happened, but then it returns and there seems to be no way to escape the sickening stench.
Thousands of people were in Bradford on Thursday evening to enjoy the Jasper Carrott gig at the city's multi-million-pound venue, Bradford Live.
One person complained that an "awful smell" was rife in the air though, and "ruined the evening at Bradford Live" as the odour managed to make its way into the building.
They claimed it was back with a vengeance today, but this time in Manningham.
The gig-goer said: "What's the point of spending millions improving a city centre if it stinks?”
Another attendee had sympathy for Bradford Live and said "its audiences shouldn't have to deal with such an overwhelming stink".
They added: “It was impossible to ignore the smell that permeated the lobby and bar area of Bradford Live as the audience flooded in prior to the Jasper Carrott gig on Wednesday evening.
"And it wasn’t the fault of the venue; it was coming from outside."
They heard a woman ask a member of staff what the smell was and their response was, "it's the sewers".
The attendee said: "Whether it was or it wasn’t, the sweet slurryish smell wafted into the auditorium and hung in the air.
"Very unpleasant – and would have been even more so if recent high temperatures hadn’t dipped slightly in the previous 24 hours.
"Bradford has an amazing new live venue. Its audiences shouldn’t have to deal with such an overwhelming stink."
The Telegraph & Argus has approached Bradford Council for comment, asking the local authority whether a source has been identified for the smell given visitors to one of its cultural attractions were left in disgust.
