A SCHOOL'S lollipop lady has celebrated 20 years of service.

Keighley MP Robbie Moore visited Addingham Primary School to attend a special school assembly for Gill Kettle.

This year marked two decades since Gill first began her role helping children and families safely cross the busy main road that runs past the school.

Over the years, she has become a well-known and much-loved figure in the community, in particular for her warm and friendly persona and her strong commitment to keeping children safe.

What happened in the assembly?

The assembly, which had been kept as a surprise for Gill, brought together pupils, teachers and parents to celebrate her service.

The event featured several musical performances from different year groups, including hymns and songs.

Pupils and teachers then presented Gill with a range of gifts as a token of their thanks.

The assembly finished with a full-school rendition of Toy Story’s ‘You’ve Got a Friend in Me’, with pupils, teachers, parents and even Mr Moore joining in.

Gill has become 'much-loved, familiar face within the community'

Robbie Moore MP said: “It was an absolute pleasure to be invited down to Addingham Primary School recently for a special assembly celebrating 20 years of service from their fantastic lollipop lady, Gill.

"For the past two decades, Gill has helped children and families safely cross the busy main road outside the school, braving all weather and traffic conditions and becoming as a much-loved, familiar face within the community.

"There was some brilliant singing from the different year groups and some lovely gifts presented to Gill by pupils and staff.

"A huge well done to all involved – and, of course, a huge thanks to Gill for your service to the community - great to see it recognised like this."
