STEPHEN Darby’s tribute flag at Valley Parade has earned a heart-felt thank you from his wife.

A massive flag was unfurled in the Kop before City’s win over Grimsby on Saturday in praise of Darby, who continues his brave battle with MND.

A picture of the defender in a Bantams shirt bore the message, “captain, leader, legend”.

The 36-year-old’s wife, the former England Lioness international Steph Houghton, has thanked the club for the display.

Writing on X, formerly Twitter, she said: “On behalf of myself and Stephen we would like to say a huge thank you for the amazing gesture and continued support!

“This certainly brought a few tears but also overwhelming happiness. What a great club, created by its amazing supporters. So much love The Darbys.”

The flag was organised by City Vent to help raise awareness for the Darby Rimmer MND foundation, that was founded by Darby and his late friend Chris Rimmer after they were both struck down by the deadly disease.

Darby made 239 appearances in a five-year spell at Valley Parade between 2012 and 2017. He retired from football the following year after being diagnosed.
