A MAN who kicked, punched, and slapped a woman has been jailed for five-and-a-half years.
29-year-old Peter Turton, from Shelf, was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court.
The court heard the extent of the injuries the woman suffered, including bruises across her body and bleeding from a head wound. Clumps of her hair had also been ripped out.
Her hair was grabbed, and she was slapped and kicked to the head.
Turton, who appeared via video link from HMP Leeds, later pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, false imprisonment, and criminal damage.
Sentencing Turton to a total of 68 months imprisonment, Recorder Silverton said Turton posed “a high risk of harm”.
Quoting from a pre-sentence report, she said the impact was likely to have long-lasting effects on the woman’s emotional and psychological wellbeing “that will be difficult or impossible to recover from.”
The report said Turton had tried to excuse his behaviour by blaming substance abuse – drinking all day and topping up with cocaine.
