A BRADFORD man who helps to enrich the lives of people with disabilities is in the running for a top accolade.
Akbar Khan has been nominated in the Community Champion of the Year category in this year's Sporting Equals Awards.
Akbar has volunteered with the Bradford PHAB Club for nearly five decades.
His family first became involved with the charity through his two brothers, who suffered from muscular dystrophy.
They sadly passed away aged 16 - but Akbar has remained part of the organisation ever since, now serving as chairman.
He works as part of a team arranging inclusive activities for club members, including abseiling, archery, flying lessons, rock climbing and theme park trips.
Akbar said: "I am grateful for the nomination.
"I am honoured to have been involved with the Bradford PHAB Club for more than 45 years, currently serving as a chairman.
"This role fills me with pride as it allows me to honour the memory of my beloved brothers, both of whom were once members of PHAB in their youth.
"To be able to help and support families who have children with disabilities has been a blessing for me.
"I can relate to the needs and demands they face from my own experiences with my brothers.
"The act of giving back to the community and witnessing the joy it brings to those less fortunate is truly invaluable to me."

Akbar added: "While I am humbled and privileged to be considered for this award, I must emphasise that this recognition is not just for me but for the entire PHAB family.
"This nomination is a tribute to them and to my departed brothers, whose spirit lives on within PHAB.
"As a registered charity, we work tirelessly to provide activities for individuals with disabilities in Bradford and the surrounding areas.
"We welcome members from all backgrounds and walks of life, fostering a sense of community and inclusivity.
"I am committed to championing the Bradford PHAB Club and hope that together we can secure this win and bring the award home to Bradford."
Sporting Equals' annual award ceremony celebrates inspirational figures who are supporting diversity and inclusivity within sport.
The 2024 Sporting Equals Awards will be held at London's Royal Lancaster Hotel on October 5.
