A SEA of floral tributes continues to grow outside the house where a fire killed a mother and her three children.
Scores of floral tributes and messages have been left outside the house on Westbury Road, in the BD6 area of the city, following the deaths of Bryonie Gawith and her children Denisty-Mai, Oscar, and Aubree.
The huge outpouring of support and grief comes as the inquest into their deaths was opened in a brief hearing at Bradford Coroners' Court this morning.
Senior Coroner Martin Fleming said: "It's with a heavy heart I formally open the inquest into the deaths of mother Bryonie Gawith and three of her children Denisty-Mai Dolores Birtle, Oscar Jonathon Birtle, and Aubree Birtle."
Coroners' Officer Helen Binns provided a statement, describing each as a "sad death".
The court heard Ms Gawith was 29.
Ms Binns said: "She died on August 21, 2024, at 2.48am at 26 Westbury Road, in Bradford."
The coroners' officer then added that Aubree was aged one, Oscar was aged five, and Denisty was aged nine at the time of their deaths.
Brief details were given on the circumstances of their deaths.
Ms Binns said: "On August 21, 2024 at 2.07am an urgent call was made to West Yorkshire Police to say a family house was on fire - Bryonie Gawith and her three children were present.
"Police and fire attended however despite their best efforts they all sadly died."
Detective Inspector Eleanor Buchanan from West Yorkshire Police was present in court and confirmed the force is in the process of bringing together a file for criminal evidence.
The court heard three suspects have been arrested in total and that one was removed from the property at the time of the fire. He was taken to hospital where he currently remains in a critical condition.
The other two suspects have been charged with serious offences and appeared before crown court, the inquest opening heard.
Mohammed Shabir, 44, of Alice Street, Keighley, and Calum Sunderland, 25, of Calton Street, Keighley, are charged with murdering Ms Gawith and the three children and attempting to murder Antonia Gawith.
They are due to appear before Bradford Crown Court on September 25 for a pre trial preparation hearing and a provisional trial date has been set for March 4 next year.
Mr Fleming said a post-mortem had been completed but the coroners' court is awaiting a file for this.
He added: "I'm keen to release the family to their loved ones."
The inquest was suspended pending the outcome of the criminal proceedings.
Mr Fleming said: "Of course, criminal proceedings must take priority.
"I do formally suspend these proceedings until the crown court outcome".
