A WELL-KNOWN restaurant, bar and wedding venue has insisted it is "open as usual" but "alcohol is not available at the moment" - after it was revealed its licence had been suspended.
Calderdale Council received an application from West Yorkshire Police for a review of the premises licence for Casa on Elland Road, Brighouse.
At a subsequent meeting, councillors agreed to suspend the licence immediately pending a full review, meaning the business is currently unable to sell alcohol or hold events.
The licence suspension came after a man was arrested on suspicion of abstracting electricity at the premises last week.
In a Facebook post yesterday, Casa said it was "open as usual and ready to serve you all the delicious food you love".
The post said alcohol would not be currently available - but added that people were "welcome to bring their own".
The post said: "Attention, everyone!
"We've noticed some recent rumours, so we wanted to set the record straight.
"Yes, we are open as usual and ready to serve you all the delicious food you love!
"However, please note that alcohol won't be available at the moment.
"But don't worry, you're welcome to bring your own!
"We can't wait to see you here - come hungry and ready for a great time!"
The post ended with #OpenAsUsual #BYOB #GoodEats.
The T&A approached Casa for further comment but no response has been received at this stage.
A Calderdale Council spokesperson said: "Last week, we received an application from West Yorkshire Police for a summary review of Casa's premises licence, on the basis that the statutory licensing objectives are not met.
"At the Council's Licensing Subcommittee meeting on Thursday, August 8, councillors agreed that Casa's licence would be suspended immediately pending a full review of the licence.
"We will carry out the review within the next month, which will involve looking into whether the business is being managed and operated in line with its licence conditions and the Licensing Act 2003.
"Representations from interested parties can be made until Friday, August 23, 2024, by emailing licensing@calderdale.gov.uk."
It came after police said officers "were called to assist with a warrant on behalf of an energy supplier at premises in Elland Road, Brighouse" on August 5.
A force spokesperson said: "Officers attended and arrested a man on suspicion of abstracting electricity.
"Further enquiries are being made."
