A GLOBAL pizza fast-food firm has opened its first UK drive-thru in the Bradford area and will offer slices for 15p for just one day only.

Sbarro, a franchise that was born in the USA, launched a drive-thru service at Cleckheaton Services, in Centurion Way last Thursday.

The business has more than 630 locations across 28 countries, including 15 others in the UK, but this is its first drive-thru in the country.

To celebrate the launch and this historic moment, the Sbarro in Cleckheaton is selling its New York-style XL pizza slices - which normally go for between £3 and £3.50 - at a discounted price this Saturday, as a homage to the company’s roots.

Sbarro was famous for its 15-cent pizza slices when it first opened across the pond in 1956 as an Italian salumeria - a cured meat shop or Italian deli.

A spokesperson for Sbarro said: "In 1956, Carmela and Gennaro Sbarro opened the doors to their Italian salumeria in Brooklyn, New York.

“Carmela 'Mama' Sbarro made pizza slices for shift workers looking for a quick meal.

“Her slices were so popular that they soon opened a second location focused solely on pizza, and now there are over 630 Sbarro eateries across 28 countries.

We tried the UK’s ‘first pizza drive-thru’ and one unique item was out of this world

"Our brand new store in Cleckheaton brings the convenience of a drive-thru restaurant coupled with the best quality pizza slices that Sbarro have perfected over almost 70 years, and we thought that the best way to reflect this was in the price.

"To mark our opening, we're doing what Mama Sbarro did, selling the finest pizza slices at the same price point that they were in 1956.

“To celebrate our new Cleckheaton store, the first pizza drive-thru in the UK, we're giving people the Sbarro quality for just 15p a slice."

There is currently only one Sbarro location in West Yorkshire – situated off Leeds Road, in Wakefield.

The Cleckheaton franchise will open from 6am every weekday and will offer pizza slices, as well as a dedicated breakfast range.

This includes a sausage, egg, and cheese strombolini, a sausage, ham, egg, and cheese pizza, as well as hash browns.

The store will also have a variety of drinks, including cloudy lemonade, dragon fruit, and a range of coffees such as lattes and cappuccinos, with the option to add hazelnut, vanilla, or caramel syrup.

Sbarro closes on weekdays at 10.30pm and is open between 7am and 10.30pm on a Saturday, and 7am and 10pm on a Sunday.

Terms and conditions apply to the 15p slice promotion.
