A LONG-TIME charity worker has spoken of her shock after a yob broke into her shop and stole the till.

Kathy Tedd has been running Jubilee Outreach Yorkshire (JOY) in Westgate, Shipley for over 30 years.

On Wednesday, she was saddened to find the shop had been targeted by a burglar in the early hours of the morning.

West Yorkshire Police are now appealing for witnesses following the incident.

He then fumbles around, getting caught on a clothing rail at one stage, before leaving the premises.

"It is awful. We have had such a lot to deal with," Kathy said.

"He threw a concrete block at the laminated glass door which is about £600 worth. It smashed the glass and pushed the whole frame in.

"He then stole the till and knocked shelving over so we lost a lot of china."

The charity provides aid to countries around the world that are experiencing disasters.

Kathy and her team are currently stocking up a container to get out to Yemen.

"Medical supplies are not coming in as fast as they usually do. I need to get this container off at the end of July/beginning of August. 

"We need wheelchairs, walking frames, dressings, cotton wool, splints, surgical boots, and crutches. Any cash donations are also welcome."

A spokesperson for the force said: "Police are appealing for witnesses following a burglary at a shop in Westgate, Shipley, which was reported at 6.37am on Wednesday, May 22.

"The suspect is believed to have gained entry by smashing glass in the door and is thought to have made off with a till/cash register.

"The suspect is described as being a white male, about 5ft 9ins tall who was wearing a black jacket/hooded top, grey jogging bottoms, black gloves and something covering the lower half of his face. He was also thought to be carrying a drawstring bag.

"The incident is believed to have occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who saw any suspicious activity in the area is asked to contact police in Shipley on 101, or by using the livechat facility on the West Yorkshire Police website. 

"The crime reference is 13240275567.
